Bri’s Dining Room Makeover

When Bri of bought her new house she settled in fairly quickly but one room that went relatively untouched was the dining room. When she reached out to me to design her patio space she also wanted to tackle a few other areas in the house and the neglected dining was next on our list. I am excited to share the transformation!

One of the first things we did was extend the marble countertop on the passthrough from the kitchen so that we could add and create a space for friends to sit and chat while Bri was in the kitchen. The cutout was there before but with no countertop overhang it created an odd dead space (you’ll see in the before photos below). Just that extra 12″ of marble makes such a huge difference in the room.

When we started talking about the feel Bri wanted for the space, she was inspired by a recent trip to Japan and the use of clean lines and natural textures, which obviously was speaking my language. We wanted to create a calm vibe that still had some personality. I made a feature wall starting with the and combined it with custom shelves and a custom mirror so they all work together as one and we added artwork and small treasures for display.

And now for some before and after’s…

We moved the off center lighting and traded the pendant for two , added the and those to finish off the space.

In this before shot is where you can see the marble stopped flush with the pony wall but now that we added the overhang and those perfectly simple stools it looks much more finished. Also, how gorgeous is that scarf hanging in the corner? (this design is no  longer available but they have other ).

  • I love that scarf on the wall. A less expensive way to get a similar look is to buy saris on Ebay. They usually cost between $10 and $20. I’ve used them to make canopies and curtains and I think wall hanging is next on my list.

  • Where did y’all get the custom mirror made? I’ve been looking for a good place to get an oversized mirror in a specific color

    • I can’t remember which one but it was just a local glass & mirror shop. I just searched that in google maps and picked the closest one to the job site.

  • Jesus woman, this is SO good!

Pondering buying that rug now for our living room…the price is so good too.

  • Ooo where is the white cylinder planter from? Been looking for one like that.

  • OMG that mirror!! 😍😍😍

  • Curious as to what size table and rug you went with? I’d love to fit the same number of chairs under such table.

    • we got the 84″ long table with a 7′ x 10.5′ rug, if I am remembering right.

  • How do you keep the rug sliding around? Rug pad? Sticky tape? I love rugs like this, but I can’t seem to ever keep them stuck to the ground instead of sliding around.

    • I like to use rug pads for extra cushion and it also keeps it from sliding around. something like this one.

Shescorts, could you share which size table you ordered for Bri’s makeover? It looks perfect.

  • You are so talented!

  • I love the green chairs – they really give the dining room a fresh look!

We have an off center light too. Our contractor says that with our smooth wall finish and 8′ ceiling, the patch will show. Our choice: find a good plaster person and risk it, or use a grouping of pendants. What did you do in Bri’s dining room?

    • Hi Stephanie,
If the contractor said that a patch would show, I would definitely trust their opinion. Unless you’re planning on painting over a patch, I’m not sure if it’s worth risking it! In Bri’s case, we switched the first pendant and simply added a second pendant. Depending on the space you’re working in, adding 1 or more pendants might be something to consider!
