home progress: bathroom update

bathroom renovation // vintage credenza vanity, round mirror // smitten studioHey guys our bathroom is finished! I still have to add in the final accessories (towel hooks, toilet paper holder, soap dispensers, rug, etc. etc) but at least we have a brand spanking new and usable bathroom. We also just passed our final inspection and everything got approved by the city, so our 2 bed/1bath just officially went to a 2 bed/2 bath (with a new laundry room). Yay!

bathroom renovation // vintage credenza vanity, round mirror // smitten studioherringbone tile // bathroom renovation // smitten studioherringbone shower, gold fixtures // smitten studioLast time I showed the bathroom we were waiting on the mirror and glass shower enclosure to get installed. The reason for the HUGE delay in posting was because we also ran into a big problem with the tile job. After the grout went in, the color was blotchy and that was only emphasized by the fact that all the lines were uneven thicknesses. The guy assured us that it just had to finished drying and it would be uniform.

Well, we waited and waited and the blotchiness never went away (you can kind of see it here). We tried to get the guy back, but never could track him down. Finally, just when I was about to give up and have our brand new tiled shower and floors just look like dirty old ones, a guy on the crew that had been working on the rest of the renovation came in, scraped out all of the grout, and re-did the entire space (and the angels sang, taa daaaaaa).

Absolutely stunning. I love all the special details – the marble trim around the shower, those dreamy brass fixtures and the warmth from the wood vanity. Amazing job!

  • so so beautiful – as always!!

I have a semi-unrelated question – what camera + lens do you shoot with? your images are always so clean and bright!

  • Mailinh

    It looks lovely, Shescorts!

  • Elle Uy

We’re in the process of regrouting a kitchen backsplash and it’s tedious. Can’t imaging having to do that in a brand new bathroom.. Good thing you have your other crew there.

But at least it’s all done and your bathroom is gorgeous! Love all the details you chose, especially the big round mirror / drop lights. I’m taking notes.

    Wonderful and Marvelous

  • Those gold-dipped bulbs are great! Are they from the same source as the light fixture? And do they still allow enough lighting for the bathroom?

    • Hi Erica, oh yes! I forgot to mention the bulbs. They are from cedar and miss as well and they do give out plenty of light!

  • Elisabeth

I think that I am in love! You guys did such a beautiful job with it. So good.

  • What color grout did you use for the floors? Looks amazing!

  • Anna Sundman

I love the idea of turning a credenza into a vanity! What exactly did that entail? Was it a DIY?

  • Chelsea

The sinks are stunning and I LOVE the brass hardware!

OMG it looks AMAZING, Shescorts–yippee!! Sooo exciting!

We have a similar glass shower, which I was so excited about when we moved in, but my immediate second though was, ‘Ack, how will I ever keep it clean!?’ A friend gave me a ‘recipe’ for a cleaner and it works amazing. Grab a clean, empty spray bottle, fill it with half Dawn dish soap & half vinegar. Spray, let sit for a few minutes (the longer the better; I often let it sit for 20 mins), and then go in with your loofah (or scrub brush, whatever you prefer) and the tile and glass gets squeaky clean without a ton of effort. I used to HATE cleaning the tub and this has seriously saved me.

(You can see a pic of our shower here: http://acoest1984.blogspot.ca/2014/05/our-condo-master-bedroom-bathroom.html )

    Have a great weekend!

Super nice bathroom renovation! My favourite point are textures of walls and floor. This duet of squares and honeycorbs with some gold elements are quite minimalistic but at the same time outstanding and eye catching.

  • Shescorts,
Lovely bathroom! I’m curious if you know how the mirror is attached and whether it is “floating” off the wall a little bit? This is the look I want to achieve and the mirror guy tells me I have to have to install our round mirror with brackets, which is not at all what I want to do. I’d love to hear your install technique if you can share. Thanks!

    • sarah

      Hi Torrey,
Yes it is installed with brackets. One bracket is secured to the wall and the other is secured to the back of the mirror. Then the mirror bracket slides into the wall bracket.

  • Hi,

Your bathroom looks stunning! Great work!!

Just wanted to ask how the brass fixtures deal with water over time? Do they still look fresh and nice, or do the get more of a rustic look?

  • Hi!
Can you explain the process you went through to get the shower brackets to match the purist gold finish? (Vibrant modern brushed gold, right?). Thanks so much!

    • Hi! They actually don’t have a matching finish. The brackets are a shiny standard brass and the purist is their “French Gold” which is a little lighter in gold but also shiny. (I believe they have discontinued that finish)
